The cockatiel gang

Sara, a gray female. Sweet, easy going, but does not sing. I got her from a pet store in 1991.

Pepsi, a bright yellow male. We rescued Pepsi during the May 2000 Cerro Grande Fire in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where we I lived at the time. The family knew I had birds and asked me to watch it when they had to evacuate. The next day I had to evacuate too, leaving town with 28 birds – mine and others that belonged to people who knew me. I stayed at a friends home in Santa Fe, and let the birds out of their cages for a bit to stretch their wings. I turned my back for just a minute and returned to see Pepsi had a broken leg…possibly bitten by another bird, but I will never know for sure. I rushed her to an animal clinic. Too much damage had been done and the veterinarian (my future husband) amputated her leg. The owners let me keep Pepsi after this.

Spree, a pale yellow. I took Spree into the flock early 2010, when her owner, a college student, could not take the time to care for it and socialize with it any longer. Spree was born in 2005 and had been trained well by her previous family. She knows many tricks. An example: Hold up a treat and Spree will flex her wings. She says only one phrase, “Pretty bird”.
